Twenty runners from Plevin have signed up to take part in the Business Challenge in this years’ Great Manchester 10k run. The team are raising funds for their chosen charity of the year, the NSPCC which seeks to prevent child abuse in the UK.

The Great Manchester run takes place on Sunday 22 May and is Europe’s largest 10k race. Over 40,000 runners are expected to take part in the event which is set to see its 300,000th runner cross the line during the 13 year history of the event. The Plevin team are aiming to raise over £1000 from the event for the charity.

The NSPCC works tirelessly to prevent child abuse. It has been recognised that over half a million children are abused in the UK. The NSPCC help children who’ve been abused to rebuild their lives, protect children at risk and find the best ways of preventing child abuse from ever happening.

Deborah Sefton, NSPCC community fundraising manager for Tameside, said: "We are delighted that staff from Plevin are going to be taking part in the run and raising money for the NSPCC.  It is a fantastic event to kick start our charity partnership.  As a grassroots charity we rely on local fundraising for a large proportion of our donations and so I’d like to thank the staff at Plevin for choosing the NSPCC and helping us to support children and young people across the region.”

Andy Clugston, Transport Manager at Plevin, who has organised the run added, “We are proud to be running in aid of the NSPCC. The charity was voted amongst our staff as the most popular choice of charity that we will be supporting this year. We raised over £2,600 for charity last year and are aiming to beat this target”.
