'Team Plevin' tackle the Great Manchester Run in Aid of North West Air Ambulance

28 January 2015

Ten keen runners from Plevin are digging out their trainers and taking to the streets in aid of North West Air Ambulance.  The employees are taking part in the Great Manchester Run to raise vital funds for the charity.

The Great Manchester Run, taking place on Sunday 10 May, is Europe’s largest 10k race which is expected to see in excess of 40,000 runners taking part. The route, which takes race goers through the heart of Manchester, will see Plevin’s team of runners complete the course and raise over £1000 for the charity.

Andrew Clugston, Transport Manager, Plevin, added, “We are proud to be running in aid of the North West Air Ambulance. The speed in which they can reach people in need of treatment is incredible, Since they rely solely on charitable donations to keep them in the air, we have decided to make them our charity of the year”.

Linda de Sá, Challenge Events Officer at the North West Air Ambulance Charity, said: “We’d like to thank Plevin for choosing us as their nomination charity for the Great Manchester Run this year. The donation will really make a difference as we are totally reliant on funds from the public. We wish good luck to everyone racing for us!”

If anyone would like to sponsor the Plevin team, donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/Plevin.

Investing in cleaner, greener haulage

12 January 2015

Here at Plevin, we have been investing in greener, more environmentally friendly ways of transporting our biomass fuel by road.

Ten new trailers have been purchased with an overall capacity of 150cu yards, an increase of 25% on our existing trailers which means that that we can deliver larger loads. This reduces the overall number of journeys that we need to make to deliver our biomass fuel to the customer. And less lorry journeys made means that as a company we are reducing our carbon footprint though a decrease in harmful emissions. As we are all aware, carbon emissions are a significant contributing factor towards global warming.

As an additional initiative, we have invested in fuel efficiency driver training for our team of haulage drivers. To support this, all of our vehicles are now fitted with telematics to help us monitor fuel efficiency and driver compliance.

'Plevin News' from our Hazlehead site

7 October 2014

Our Hazlehead, Sheffield site is the largest wood recycling depot in the UK. Over the last few months, the site has been undergoing a series of developments and a bespoke wood recycling plant has undergone the final stages of commissioning.

In this first edition, find out how we are minimising the risk of fire and making improvements to on site drainage which will mitigate any concerns with run off water. Our second fire engine is now on site and fully equipped to tackle incidents with additional employees now been trained on fire management.

Ever wondered how waste wood is manufactured into biomass fuel? Then take a look at a schematic which follows the stages taken to turn the waste wood into a fuel. A bespoke wood recycling plant has been commissioned and built by Vecoplan. With the capacity to process up to 80 tonnes of wood per hour, the plant is the most quickest and efficient in the country.

We are continuously looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint and have recently purchased new trailers. These have a 25% load capacity on our existing trailers which not only reduces the overall number of deliveries of biomass fuel made each day, but reduces fuel consumption.
