South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue are still on site at our Hazlehead, Sheffield site. The damping down process is continuing and we do expect the situation to be resolved within the next few days. We fully sympathise with the inconvenience this situation has caused to residents.
The Environment Agency have been taking samples and monitoring the water in Sledbrook Dyke due to water run-off from our site. To prevent further run-off, water is being pumped from the lagoon on Whams Road. We appreciate that the pumps are noisy and again we apologise for this.
We will not be taking anymore wood onto site for the foreseeable future until our current tonnages have been reduced. During this time, Plevin lorries will be present on site but this will be to remove processed biomass fuel to take to the renewable energy plant at Blackburn Meadows, Sheffield. Once this plant becomes fully operational, tonnages levels of biomass fuel at the site will be reduced considerably.
We are working closely with The Environment Agency and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service to ensure that lessons are learnt from this and the previous incident have been put into practice. Health and Safety is paramount to our company and we will be conducting a full investigation as to how and why this fire started.
Please be assured that we are doing our upmost to mitigate the impact of this incident and sincerely apologise for all inconvenience.
